Katie Adams: Indepenence
Katie Adams, a student at Virginia Tech, is independent about everything she wants to accomplish.
Katie Adams is a junior and sports media and analytics major at Virginia Tech. From a young age, she grew up around the Hokies because her father is the president of the Hokie Club. The mission statement for the Hokie Club can be explored here. She grew up going to Ravens games with her father and sports, especially football, was a priority in her family. But it didn’t stop there for Katie, she took her father’s love for football and turned it into a passion for herself.
Her biggest career goal in life is to become a director of recruiting for a power five team in college football. At Virginia Tech, she worked for two years in the recruiting department before taking a break this year. However, she plans to continue working again in the recruiting department next year.
In a decision for deciding between Auburn, South Carolina, and Virginia Tech, she spoke about what it meant to her to be a hokie. In her words, she said that there wasn’t a big enough reason to not be a Hokie so she wanted to continue her lifetime of being a hokie. She also said that other colleges had lucrative opportunities in terms of recruiting but mentioned that she may not have taken full advantage of the opportunities at Virginia Tech.
When speaking about the type of person she is she said, “I like to be by myself, I like to be alone doing things as I’ve pursued everything on my own and not being handed things from more authoritative people”.
Her drive to achieve her goals on her own is what makes her who she is. Since the sports field is dominated by men, women like Laura Rutledge and Alex White are benchmarks for the type of person Katie wants to be. She said that Laura and Alex got to where they are from knowledge, hard work, and confidence and ability to challenge men in their thinking and beliefs.
Katie doesn’t want to get anywhere based off of anything but her accomplishments and who she is as a person rather than any other ulterior qualities.
